The Ninetieth Session of the Commission

Geneva, 12-21 October 2020


The Commission held its ninetieth session at the Palais des Nations, hosted by the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) from 12 to 21 October 2020. For the first time in the history of the Commission, the session was held in a hybrid manner due to the Corona Virus pandemic. In addition to having physical presence of Commission members and other stakeholders, there was also virtual connection to those regular participants who could not be physically present, either because of travel restrictions or health concerns regarding the pandemic. This was the only Commission session held in 2020.

During the session, the Commission deliberated on the following agenda items among others:

  • Post Adjustment issues;
  • Base/floor salary scale for staff in the Professional and higher categories;
  • Evolution of the United Nations/United States net remuneration margin;
  • Salary survey methodologies for locally recruited staff;
  • Contractual arrangements;
  • Implementation of recruitment incentive;
  • The level of: Danger Pay and Security Evacuation allowance;
  • Diversity of the workforce;
  • The methodology and level of children’s and secondary dependent’s allowances;
  • Identification of the highest paid national civil service (Noblemaire Study): Reference check with other international organizations;
  • Global Staff survey on conditions of service.
