The Commission held its 83rd session at the World International Property Organization in Geneva from 25 July to 5 August 2016. The main part of the session was dedicated to the agenda item on the use of categories of staff in the United Nations common system. The Commission also finalized its discussion on the Framework for Human Resources Management, and reviewed a proposed end-of-service grant, the status of implementation of the three types of staff contracts and of the new common system compensation package, as well as the review cycle of the levels of existing allowances. The Commission further reviewed the base/floor salary scale, the evolution of the UN/US net remuneration margin, gender balance in the common system, and the status of the 2016 round of cost-of-living surveys at headquarter duty stations. In addition, the Commission decided on the adjustment of dependency allowances for staff in the General Service and related categories, following the unfreezing of allowances.
